Adrian & Debbie moved to the Charente-Limousine over ten years ago. We love the french way of life and want to share our experiences with you. We have up to date information of events, activities and places to see within the region.
The Charente-Limousine is located in the South-West of France. This region is famous for beautiful, lush countryside, sunflower fields and nature reserves, ideal for wildlife observers. For connaiseurs there is an abundance of superior wines, and Pineau is one of the local aperitifs. The local cuisine includes limousin beef, cèpes or girolles (mushrooms), goat's cheese, tourte limousine, petit salé & seafood. Tours of the cognac vineyards and distilleries can be organised for those who wish. The medieval city of Limoges is well known in the porcelaine industry, and many of the factories offer tours. The Parc du Reynou is also a great family day out. The local town of Saint-Junien is reknowned for it's glove factories with visits available. The Site Corot offers riverside walks along the Glane, an activity course and a pottery shop. And the fortified village of Brigueuil is infamous within the area for it's Rosary Festival (Easter) which is a traditional celebration of the carnival queen. Local amenities include : A butcher's, baker's, bar, 2 hairdresser's, doctor's surgery, pharmacy & post-office. There are plenty of family activities and events in the local villages & towns to keep visitors occupied but for those who are willing to travel a little further afar, please see the below list of possible day trips :
Brantôme is also a quaint town well worth a visit (1 hour 30 mins),
Futuroscope is a fun day out for families or ungrown-ups (1 hour 40mins),
Brive-La-Gaillarde is easily reached along the A20 and often holds Marchés des Producteurs,
Rocamadour is also a beautiful town to visit, located in a gorge it also holds one of the largest hot-air balloon festivals in France (last weekend in September)
The nearest beach (Royan) is around 2 hour 30 mins away and if you've had enough of paddling in the sea or the water is not quite warm enough for your toes then La Palmyre zoo can also be great for families.
